CCDT organised an exposure visit to INS Shivaji to educate children about the Indian Navy and its various departments. The kids were extremely excited as they visited the campus to explore the departments and museum centre. Through interactive exhibits and hands-on play, it allowed the kids to take ownership of their own learning; develop and explore their own curiosities.
During the tour they were thrilled to see the Fire Fighting Training Facility (FFTF) of the Indian Navy. The team demonstrated how to extinguish a fire during emergencies.
Towards the second half of the day they visited Shivaji Museum and learned about the evolution of marine propulsion.
A visit to the Education department taught the group more about careers in the Indian Navy. Lieutenant Hina, conducted a session to elaborate the roles and principles of the Indian Navy for men and women, along with the process to get enrolled in specific departments.
With a special focus on women, Lieutenant Hina gave her own example as to why she joined the Indian Navy. In a world where women are constantly trying to break the glass ceiling, her speech definitely motivated and inspired many of the young girls who attended the tour.
After the session, many children expressed their interests by asking questions about the entrance exams, and the process of admission.
Out of curiosity Mahananda (Residential Care Program Child) asked the Lieutenant, “It must be very difficult to clear exams and interviews, how was your experience?” In response Lieutenant Hina said, “Don’t think you cannot do it- try your best. At least you won’t regret not trying. Even my parents and close ones were not supportive but I asked for a chance to prove myself.”
Towards the end of the visit, the children met with team ‘Sparsh’ of the Naval Wives Welfare Association and shared their fruitful experience of visiting INS Shivaji.
