Home Based Care Program- Mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS on families

Case Study

Sana and Heena, participated in their Annual Support Group Meet of their area, making for a very happy picture of smiles and hope.

However, until sometime back, this was not the case, since both Sana and Heena had lost their parents to HIV and were unaware of their own status. Both were living with their Aunt, Mehrunnissa. They were in very poor health when the Sion Paediatric Centre referred their case to the CCDT project staff.

Thus began a journey to make the girls become more hopeful and take better care of their health, especially Sana who had developed tuberculosis as a coinfection. Over time, the project team of CCDT gained Sana’s trust and faith and convinced her to take her medication regularly, which improved her health. With the support of the project staff, their aunt finally managed to share their HIV status with them. This helped in developing a stronger bond between all three of them. Today all of them are strong ambassadors of CCDT’s Home Based Programme.
